Thinking through Drawing

Picture
Andrea Kantrowitz is one of the directors of the international Thinking through Drawing project, an interdisciplinary research network, which meets annually, fosters collaboration and publishes on drawing and cognition. The fourth annual Thinking Through Drawing symposium will take place in London on November 6-8, 2015.  In 2013, the Thinking through Drawing conference took place at The Metropolitan Museum and Teachers College, Columbia University.  This followed up on Thinking through Drawing 2012: Drawing in STEAM at Wimbledon College of Art , London. Artists, educators, scientists, medical practitioners, philosophers, engineers, computer scientists, and more, to examine the uses of drawing across Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.  Thinking through Drawing symposia have brought colleagues together from around the world in order to share practice and discussion across countries as well as disciplines.

These symposia grew out of discussions on drawing and cognition, which began at the Drawing Research Network’s 2010 conference, between Angela Brew (University of the Arts London), Michelle Fava (Loughborough University), and Andrea Kantrowitz (Teachers College, Columbia University).
